| | Ditto. I just bought a Samsung r-400 for use with my Metro PCS service. I love the phone so far! I searched for drivers but cannot find any. Can someone post a link where the driver for my laptop would be, along with a link for software, or can I use the software at the top of the forum??

| I got the same phone. I bought a data cable and it came with a CD. It has A LOT of softwares but so far all of those I've tried either don't recognize the phone or are for GSM phones (ours is a CDMA)
So if anyone knows of a software that workds, PLEASE let us know.
Thanks.
I just want to be left alone! |

| Okay this is going to be a long one so bear with me.
I have an sch-r400 and Metro PCS as my carrier. Now as we have all figured out, Metro has these phone more locked down then a prison after a riot. So the following is how I've been able to start moving my own ringtones and pictures to and from my phone.
I still haven't been able to do things like use my phone as a modem. But everything in due time, maybe I can get a real tech-head to help me out with that one.
Anyways I ran into the same problem I've see here, I have the data cable, but cannot sync up with the computer. Oh yeah, for those who haven't figured it out already, don't even bother trying to send files over the bluetooth, it doesn't support that either.
So what I've done is this.
First install Samsung PC Studio 3 onto your computer. I have vista so I used the one for vista, I assume the other one is pretty close to it. Once this program is installed, then you can plug in your phone and your computer will be able to find all of the necessary drivers for your phone. But because the phone is so locked down, you won't be able to actually use the Samsung program to transfer files.
Oh and if you are not a member you can download this program at: http://www.soft-go.com/view/Samsung-PC-Studio_1153.html
Now that that is done, you need to install another program called BitPim onto your computer. And you can do that at the following: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Telephony-SMS-GSM/BitPim.shtml
So basically, you've downloaded the Samsung program not for the program, but just for the drivers. And now you are downloading BitPim, which is the actual program you will work with to transfer files.
When you open BitPim you should already have your phone plugged in, and BitPim will search for it. Just remember what port you plug into because you will have to use that same port everytime, I think it's actually the same port that the drivers were installed to also.
Now BitPim was made for certain phones, and the SCH-r400 really wasn't one of those phones, so you can't use most of the features of this program. But what you can do is see the filesystem of your phone, and that is the important part. Because you can use that filesystem to transfer pictures and ringtones to and from your phone.
The two folders that you should know about is:
#1 Where all of your pictures are stored, which is:
://brew/shared/mp
#2 Where all of your ringtones are stored, which is:
://brew/shared/mr
Now if you have sound already recorded on your phone you can move them from your sounds folder, which is:
://brew/shared/ms
to your ringtones folder and you will be able to set them as your ringtone.
Now with BitPim it is a little different from windows explorer. To add a file you have to open to folder you want to add too, then right click where you see the files and go to "new file".
And when you want to download a file you right click and go to "save file".
And after you save the files on your phone sometimes you have to turn your phone off then back on for the file directory to be refreshed and the new files to appear.
Also the sch-r400 doesn't support wav or mp3 files, the only type of polyphonic sound (real ringtone) is supports is a qcp file. And I'm working on finding a good wav to qcp file converter so that I can make my own ringtones, which was what I set out to do in the first place.
So I know this was complicated. But I hope this helps some people, and I appreciate any feedback you can give, because I'm still trying to figure out how to make this phone do all the things Metro doesn't want it to. |
