This case is very good. It generally protects against scratches and falls, but dirt and other things often get in it. Sand would be a nightmare. The case itself doesn't scratch very easily, so you can always see the color of the ipod. I find myself taking it out of the case often to get water, dirt, or whatever out. It would never come off because it slides on - it's not a hinge. It could probably survive some nasty falls, with a couple harmless nicks on the ipod - it's not cushioned inside and there's a little extra room. I like it.
